Rabbit caught in headlights resize As the demand for change filters through the cracks of economic recovery, the recruitment industry feels a bit like a rabbit caught in headlights

So just where will it all end?  Spotlight on #trulondon II – the Recruitment Unconference

#trulondon II is the second Recruiting Unconference London event.  This event brings together industry professionals from the staffing profession for a two-day feast of truths, speculation and conjecture.  From traditional head-hunting to job boards to new-fangled social media integration – where will the recruitment industry be in 2,5 or 10 years time?

An Unconference is an event that has no fixed structure and only two rules: no PowerPoint and no presentations. The day is split in to sessions during which a series of “tracks” run on a theme with a track leader hosting the discussion, debate and learning. The discussion takes a life of its own with attendees bringing their own views, questions and opinions.  Debate inevitably ensues.  This takes many directions and concludes with real learning and opinion forming.

An Unconference is driven by the attendees and is not restricted by any fixed agenda.

To review everything about this Unconference use #trulondon via Twitter.

Track Leaders: Keith Robinson, Alan Whitford, Simon Lewis.

To read the many blogs on the future of job boards you could be lead to believe that there isn’t one! Recent results globally both in terms of revenue and traffic suggest something to the contrary. Will the future be in specialist or generalist? How will social impact on the traditional model? Will the job boards need to become active in networking and create communities where the job board is just a part or will the current model stay the same? If it’s not broke, why fix it? Simon Lewis from Only Marketing Jobs will represent the job boards, supported by the unrivalled views of Keith & Alan.

Sourceology – The dark arts

Track Leaders: Jim Stroud, Geoff Webb, Katherine Robinson

All this and more from 3 great sourcers from the US, Canada & the UK.

UK Sourcery – A new way of working

How can you pipeline and maintain contact in preparation of your next placement or hire?

The talent puddle

Track Leaders: Alan Whitford, Shane McClusker

Following on from the talent wars track, Alan Whitford of RCEuro explores his famed & well documented talent puddle principle. Can you maintain relationships with the whole of your network or all the candidates in your database? How can you identify the in demand skills and maintain relationships with the top 10%? Is this the right approach for you or should you be building a more traditional talent pool approach or adopting sourcing?

Global live lab – A social media experiment

Track Leader: Paul Harrison

The live lab sees Paul Harrison connecting the online world with the combined brains of #trulondon? Open twitter stream & other channels to take questions and discussion points projected on to a large screen for tracks to tweet back their answers and thoughts. Don’t be surprised to see a dip in to the wave (has anyone worked that out yet? One for a secret track?) and a look at Facebook. Who knows what problems will be solved and views shared?

Culture Clash

Track Leaders: Jon Ingham, Laurie Ruettimann, Geoff Webb, Alan Whitford

The world is shrinking and networks are going global. #trulondon is a testament to the narrowing of borders combining the leading brains in our sector from the UK, the US. & Canada. What are the shared views of the community and where do cultures clash between the continents? What do you need to keep and what do you need to be open to when networking or trading cross borders.

Gen Why & How

What can we expect from the market moving forward? What practices will return once normal business is resumed and how will this shape the way we all work? What impact social media? Will we see increased use in the talent sector or will we see continued apathy & limited take up?

Leadership questions

Track Leaders:  Peter Gold, Steve Boese, Lucian Tarnowski

What leadership is needed now & in the future? What are the big challenges faced by today’s leaders & how will this change over the next 2 decades. Will a Gen Y leader actually be any different to Gen X, or the same thing just in jeans and a stripy shirt? What challenges will the future bring and what will leaders need to be to shape the future rather than follow it?

HR evolution

Track Leaders: Trish Mcfarlane,Laurie Ruettimann, Steve Boese

In November 09 Trish Mcfarlane organised the Unconference HRevolution in Kentucky, an event that even made it on to Fox News. The event attracted many of the thought leaders from the US & gained rave reviews. Laurie Ruettimann & Steve Boese were in attendance. This track will look at the key points to come out of the event & continue the conversation here in the UK. Will the take be different or are the issues faced & solutions found global ones?

Who cares what the candidates think?

Track Leaders: Keith Robinson, Mervin Dinnen,Michelle Fischer, Simon Lewis

How important is the candidate experience now & in the future? How do the candidates view the experience they have when applying for jobs via third party recruiters, corporate recruiters, HR or job boards? What is the candidate experience once they get past the application stage? What’s the best way to manage the process & handle both the good and the bad news delivery?

New tools, old rules?

Track Leaders: Bill Boorman, Matt Alder, Paul Harrison, Jim Stroud,

With all these new communication tools has anything really changed? What else can we do with social media other than social recruiting? How about social learning? Are “old” recruiting methods a thing of the past or is there a need to return to old recruitment values? Is off line networking a thing of the past or should we be looking to grow the opportunities in the future? Is the phone the number one recruiting tool or has other technology replaced it?

Track Leaders: Laurie Ruettimann, Trish Mcfarlane, Jon Ingham

Never mind Gen Y,their here now. What will HR look like to Gen Z? Will HR exist in it’s current format? How could the HR role evolve and what will make it the career destination of choice to the bright young things? What do we want from HR now & in the future from a corporate & employee viewpoint? Are these the same things or something different? How can HR please all? How can HR prepare for the future while functioning effectively now?

Social human convergence

Track Leaders: Bill Boorman, Nick Price, Matt Burney, Andy Headworth

Take a look around at the networks that are evolving and the communities you hang out in. The barriers are down between Recruiters, HR, Vendors, Job Boards & others in the talent arena. We all want the same things for different reasons, but the same outcomes all same. How can we harness the combined knowledge & experience within the community that has evolved from independent networks in our respective disciplines? Social media has brought us together, where will we end up?

Future strategy

All track leaders

At the close of each day all tracks will spend 45 minutes consolidating the learning & thinking of all the attendees in open discussion in order to focus the mind on the next step.
