Interesting comments from Stuart MacGregor in the article, although I doubt many jobseekers would agree with his assessment. As someone who has spent most of 2009 looking for a new role after redundancy, I've seen arrogance, complacency and shoddy work in spades! From placing adverts for non-existent roles in order to 'trawl' for CVs to claims they represent companies they do not, most of the national recruitment companies have done nothing to show me the downturn has forced them to re-evaluate and improve their levels of service or work ethic. It's an old cliché, but today's candidate is potentially tomorrow's client and my experiences this year have only reinforced my view that I simply will not touch many of these companies with a barge pole when I am recruiting in future. Trying to find a new job when you are out of work is a stressful enough process without also having to contend with being lied to, ignored, messed around, ignored, misplaced, mislaid, ignored and generally treated like a piece of meat. The sooner an alternative model comes into play that helps put the Michael Pages of this world out of business the better.
