Gibson, who joins from Witan Jardine, will be based in the company’s Dubai office and will be responsible for the Gulf region and North Africa. She will report into Tim Hedger – regional managing director at EMR’s parent company, the FiveTen Group.

EMR saw the potential in the Gulf region back in 2007, when it set up as the first specialist marketing recruitment company in Dubai.

Hedger commented: “Whilst the region – and Dubai in particular – has experienced some well-publicised economic problems over the past year or so, we’re picking up signals from the market that confidence is returning. We’re committed to developing EMR’s presence in the Gulf region and North Africa and Abigail is joining the business at an exciting time.”

Hedger believes that 2010 will be an interesting year in the Middle East, both for established employees and for jobseekers. He continued: “The positive sentiment has helped maintain strong basic salaries across most marketing and communications disciplines, perhaps as people have become less reliant on bonuses. We are also starting to see greater fluidity in the job market as many who were unsettled last year were deterred from moving due to the recession.”

Recession recovery

Gibson believes that the region will quickly recover from the effects of the global recession. She said: “Although the Dubai market has been in the doldrums, the region as a whole is still a relatively vibrant – and emerging – economy. For marketers looking for an exciting opportunity combined with a very different lifestyle, there’s no better place to be.”

About EMR

Part of the international FiveTen Group, EMR has been recruiting marketing and communications professionals for 16 years; the parent group employs 570 people across 12 countries.
