Thumbs Up Recruiters looking forward to a year of resurgence

A recent poll undertaken by niche job board, Only Marketing Jobs, has found the demand for talent in the marketing sector is increasing, with digital leading the way

Although the number of participants in this poll wasn’t as high as we’d hoped, the results offer an insight into industry thinking.

The comments left against votes make interesting reading, too.  Most obvious is the separation in views between jobseeker and recruiter, with the latter far more enthusiastic about prospects than the former.

Overall picture

Marketing recruitment set for resurgence

From an observatory point of you it has been interesting to note the increase in jobs posted on our website since the turn of the new year.  It is quite fair to say that, proportionately, there is a dominance towards digital, though traditional roles are also abundant.

Perhaps its no surprise the prevalence of participants without strong feeling either way but to see these outweighed by those happy with market conditions, is good.

We’ve been unable to determine whether the moth collectors are jobseekers or recruiters, but judging by the comments, one might suspect the former.

The positive

I agree - its fill your boots time

Jobseeker comment: “I’ve just returned after 8 months of sabbatical and things are definitely looking up. When I left in June there were lots more jobs than candidates and the competition for each job was the toughest I’ve known. The market seems to have shifted back the other way now and there are lots of clients coming to us and tipping the balance.”

Recruiter comment: “The early signs are good, we have lots of positions working across: Customer Insight; Marketing/Web Analytics; Agency/Digital.”

The negative

I disagree - my wallets got moths

Perhaps most interesting in this graphic is the proportion of management-level respondents.  Are these recruitment managers or marketing managers?

Respondent comment: “I’ve just returned to work after over a year out and have had to drop a couple of rungs on the career ladder in order to get back into work.”

Respondent comment: “I have been actively seeking a new Marketing role for nearly 12 months. Despite promises from every Agency that my CV is excellent and my experience very good, I am struggling to get interviews. I agree there seem to be more roles out there than last year but I think recruiters are expecting more bang for their buck and possibly avoiding more senior managers like myself who are more costly / expecting more progression and package?”

Sitting on the fence

Dont know - its too early to say

Comment: “I can surely see a lot of demand for digital / 2.0 roles, which are already playing a crucial role in the marketing strategies of many corporations. On the other hand, the more traditional marketing skills are still on demand. It is an exciting time for marketers given all the changes going on in the industry and I believe that companies should make moves quickly (by increasing workforce in some cases) in order to react to the new market dynamics.”

So there you have it.
