How long should your CV be?
Yes, despite the digital age, the traditional CV remains the most required tool in the jobseeker kit. But how long should a CV be?
Is a 3-page CV too long?
Who cares how long it is?
These days a well-crafted cover letter beats both a short and a long CV every time. The advent of digital profile platforms such as LinkedIn allows you to be more expressionist and robust in what you tell any potential employer. Of course, there are pitfalls to this – and those are obvious, but any savvy hiring manager will look at your online credentials as well as what you might have requested/paid someone else to construct for you (taking a cynical approach).
CV parsing technology means now more than ever jobseekers are responsible for ensuring ‘buzz words’ are evident in the detail and these days hard facts and substantiating evidence of achievements count for everything.
So, go on – two pages or three?
It makes no difference. Get your cover letter right (your offline bio) and follow it up with some punchy pizzazz and you’ll have a winning formula.
Digital or hardcopy, there’s no room for imitations in this harsh new job seeking climate.
