How do you market ‘free’?

People are inherently sceptical about any promotion that offers something for ‘free’. Rather than enticing it can be altogether dissuasive.
So, just how do you sell ‘free’?
‘Complimentary’, ‘no cost’ and ‘without charge’ are common words and phrases to denote a free offering. But how do these fit into marketing plans? What are your thoughts? Can you think of better promotional words?
We want to pick your brains. In exchange for imparting your marketing knowledge we’re giving away a bottle of champagne to whoever comes up with the best example, method, word or phrase to market the word ‘free’.
