Cup of tea 250 UK marketing professionals enjoy a cosy chat and a cup of tea in LinkedIn’s largest sitting room

The UK Marketing Lounge is a LinkedIn community of 12,000 UK marketers.  Weekly announcements shout about what’s going on in the industry.  And there’s a lot more to it than marketing jobs.  Here’s the latest news.

“You lucky, lucky people,” screeches puddle-jumping Simon Lewis, chief jotter of the irrepressible scribe you may or may not choose to follow via the myriad of Only Marketing Jobs blogs, feeds, groups and other all-together more scurrilous channels.

But what’s with the fortuitous affirmation?

Well, as the tabloids continue to fuel the Cole fire, the proprietors of the UK Marketing Lounge have been burning something of their own to bring you two remarkable beacons of the future. So as the candles at both wither in exhaustion, check out these two beauties we’ve hand-delivered to your front door:

Get socially-savvy at the Social Media World Forum

The Social Media World Forum is Europe’s leading social media event. It is a two-day event featuring four dedicated conference streams, workshops and exhibitions. It features key speakers from global brands, organisations, social networking publishers and developers, pioneering social media leaders, agencies, content producers plus many more.

And you’re lucky because..?

It’s free to attend and as a member of the UK Marketing Lounge you receive a 20% discount on all value-added streams.

Do you know a marketing legend?

Oh, you do? In that case you need to nominate them for a place at the Marketing Academy, a brilliant initiative from the UK’s Marketing Hall of Legends, which aims to ‘turn the marketing talent of today into the leaders of tomorrow’.

The Marketing Academy identifies, nurtures and develops exceptional British talent in the field of Marketing, Communications & Advertising, awarding 25 fully-funded Scholarships each year to bright, naturally talented and high-potential marketers in the UK.

And you’re lucky because..?

The Marketing Hall of Legends is set to cause quite a stir this year so getting with the buzz puts in touch with loads of new contacts. Nominating (or being nominated) is highly regarded.

Find out more about the Marketing Academy and nominate your marketing legend now.

And over at the UK Marketing Lounge

Kelly Farrington asks: “Can creatives work across both online and offline platforms equally well?”  Post your opinion

Denise Matthews wants to hear from marketing recruiters who have any evidence that membership of an industry body such as the REC has assisted with business development.  Have your say.

Rob Rough raises a smile by asking your opinion on the most iconic business tools of the 80’s: Filofax? Rolodex? Power suit?  Relive your memories.

Special mentions (because we’re nice)

Give your marketing strategy an Olympic boost. We’re supporting our athletes are you?  Check out the British Athletes Commission.

Need help with your SEO?  Netcallidus certainly know their stuff.

That’s it for this week. We’re all off to lay a bet that one of us will be Cheryl Cole’s next squeeze. At 10,000-1 it’s got to be worth a quid!
